How to Draw in Flash | Buy me a Coffee

Journal Entry: Tue May 16, 2017, 11:35 PM

New tutorial about how to make flash suck less when you draw!

Also I'm now on Ko-fi, for those who wanted to donate/tip me but don't want to become a patreon supporter!

I'm around 78% of the way to the $2000 goal of buying Toon Boom.

Support me on Patreon!

Or you can Buy me a Coffee!

:bulletgreen:General commissions closed. YCH commissions still available!:bulletgreen:

Don't ask me for contests or to RP. Yer gonna have a bad time.

Also don't ask if you can ask a question--you can! Just ask it already!

I predominately go by Zedrin. I'm an animator and digital artist. I'm not very chatty but don't be afraid to ask me things, especially for technical help.

Just don't leave a comment that's essentially just 'hi' 'sup.' Make sure you've actually got something to say.

If you like my art and characters, consider supporting me on Patreon!

Some Quick FAQ stuff:

:bulletgreen: I do not RP. Don't ask if I do. If you do I will just give you a screenshot of this FAQ.
:bulletred: Do not use my characters for your icons or RPs. If you actually enjoy RPing I'd imagine you'd have at least a modicum of creativity to be more original in that case.
:bulletgreen: Don't post your contests to my page
:bulletred: I draw NSFW. I don't post (most) of it here. If NSFW is a problem with you, I honestly don't care.
:bulletgreen: I'm more active on tumblr. zedrin-maybe is my main blog and zedrin-butts is my NSFW. I do not link to this directly cause I don't want kids going to it.
:bulletred: You may not make bases or trace my works. You can use my stuff as reference material if it helps you make your own, however. Vectors are also fine as long as they aren't resold or are in a format that people can easily download and resell.
:bulletgreen: You can post my fanart to Facebook or Twitter if you'd like, or use it in a Youtube video, just please credit me at either my DA (, tumblr (, twitter (@zedrinbot), or facebook (@Zedrinbot). I prefer the source to match the place posted if possible.
:bulletred: I'm not going to work on your animated film.
:bulletgreen: I don't give out my steam/skype/discord, save for friends I already am close to.
:bulletred: I'm totally cool with fanart of my characters, even NSFW. (Just as long as it's not wildly out of character stuff.)
:bulletgreen: I use Flash CS6 and Clip Studio Paint as my primary tools
:bulletred: I can't teach people individually, but I have a host of tutorials on my youtube and am always willing to answer artistic and animated questions. There are no stupid questions when it comes to those.
:bulletgreen: I am not talkative, especially on here. Please don't send me a note expecting to strike up casual conversation with no real reason in mind.

Do you read my webcomic? Where would you read it?

94 deviants said I read it and am fine with / prefer reading it on Tumblr like it is
85 deviants said You have a webcomic? (yes, it's linked in the comments if you're curious)
36 deviants said I'd be more likely / prefer to read it if it were on its own website
18 deviants said I know you have a comic but I don't have an interest in reading it
7 deviants said I'd be more likely / prefer to read it if it were on a third party comic site like Line or Tapas

One day, if I ever got such an opportunity to and if you liked the idea, your work has inspired a couple of ideas combining Pivot and other robot girls. Of course, it'd be nothing of graphic material, strictly humorous or basic comedy.

Ever think of something with Pivot somehow becoming inflated?

where the fuck do people like you even come from where you think just casually asking things like this isn't among the weirdest and most tone-deaf thing you can do?

Hello sir Zedrin, sorry if I bother you and your great work but I do have some questions:

1. What type of animation program did CN and Nickelodeon used in those old cartoon shows?
2. I'm planning to create a rig or animate something just for fun so which program should I use? Adobe Flash CS6 or Toon Boom?
3. Is Flash CS6 expensive than Toon Boom?
4. How hard is it to animate a rig?

That is all.

1. depends on what show you're talking about.
A handful of shows, especially older ones, were made with traditional methods of using cells. Newer shows often use either Toon Boom or Flash. Spongebob went from traditional to Toon Boom over its course of life, whereas shows like Fosters Home were Flash.
2. Use what you're comfortable with. Flash is more accessible and easier to get started and is a lot more literal, but Toon Boom has more advanced elements for deformations and visual effects.
3. Flash is $20 a month individually or $50 a month as part of the entire CC suite, which includes premier and after effects (both great for furthering your work). Toon Boom is $15 a month for essentials (slightly weaker long term thanf lash), $38 a month for advanced (on par with flash), and $73 a month for premium (can exceed flash.) Alternatively, permanent, one-time licenses are $300, $1000, or $1950.
4. Rig animation will make a bit more sense if you've dealt in 3D before, however conventional animation knowledge is mandatory for a rig animation to look competent. The only way to learn this is through practice.

I have a quick question for you. Can I include one of your characters in some of my drawings?
